Study to show thyself approved!

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A candidate for church membership was asked, “What part of the Bible do you like best?” He said: “I like the New Testament best. Then he was asked, “What Book in the New Testament is your favorite?” He answered, the Book of the Parables, Sir.” Hmmm. Do you realize how many of us are guilty of such little knowledge of God’s word?

The Lord has really been convicting our hearts of how much we need to know the Bible in this day and age. The Lord has given it to us as a gift! That we might have wisdom and knowledge and understanding beyond our years!

Let’s strive to study and learn His Word. There’s so much work to be done!

  1. Where does it limit the study to the Bible? There is much more information out there to study that can be helpful if studied.
I do agree that you do first need to study the Bible in order to keep some men from fooling you into believing something wrong. There is then many books, sermons, ect. that can be helpful. Some of these people have more time and knowledge to put into their studies than I do, I do need to be able to tell the ones trying to help me from the ones who are trying to lead me down the wrong road.
An example would be, I am sure that I will never be able to learn the languages of the old writeing so I need to trust in others work in this area.

  2. So, how do you tell whether the message from other books is right or wrong?
If it supports your already narrowly conceived ideas, it is right? And if it challenges your beliefs it is wrong? Is that how it is?

  3. Know the Bible so well that you can test any information you read! For example, bank tellers don’t look at counterfeit bills to find them, they feel the real bills so much that counterfeit bills are easily spotted! So study the real deal!
