1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
As I mentioned before, this past week I had the pleasure of returning to my old neighborhood in Baltimore. The other day I took my little Elianna to a place where I made many fond childhood memories, my beloved playground.
Now, Elianna loves the slide. And it’s strange — I clearly remember this slide being enormous when I was a kid! But as I watched her slide down, I couldn’t believe how small it really is. That slide hadn’t changed, however. It hadn’t shrunk over the years. No, it was I that had changed.
In the same way sometimes, we approach our relationship with the Lord. When I first came to the Lord, my love for Him was so alive. It all looked so big and new and exciting and wonderful. Now, has it changed? No — not in the least! He’s still as fun and exciting and amazing as He has always been. But perhaps my level of childlike excitement has.
Have we become dulled toward the Lord over time? His gift of salvation hasn’t changed and His great plan for our lives hasn’t changed either. But perhaps our perception has changed a bit.
God has some terrific rides for those who’ll come to the park with Him today! It’s time to renew our love and commitment for Him. There’s so much work to be done!
